Isle of Wight County Press - 10 July 1943 - NEWPORT - The Funeral - took place in the Victoria Methodist Church on Thursday week of Mr. William Gilbert Whittington, of 15 Albany-road. The mourners were Mrs. E. Whittington (widow), Mrs. C. Whittington (mother), Mr. G. Whittington (brother), Messrs. W., C., T., and H. Sprake (brothers-in-law), Mr. A. Cooper, Mrs. I. Sprake, the Misses J. and E. Cox, Mr. E. Sprake, Mrs. Cook, Mr. V. Attrill, Mesdames Jones, Saunders, and Rugg, and Dr. Linford. The interment was in Newport Cemetery. Mr. Whittington had been a popular member of the staff of Messrs. Smith and Whitehead, Ltd., whom he had served for 25 years and he will be greatly missed by the firm and their clients.
