Isle of Wight County Press - 27 November 1909 - NEWPORT - THE FUNERAL - took place on Sunday at St. Paul's, Barton, Cemetery, of the late Mr. Joseph James Burrows, who after serving for 16 years as a bandsman in the Notts and Derby Regiment, formerly of Parkhurst, was invalided about eight months ago suffering from consumption. This dread disease, it is stated, was contracted through blowing a military musical instrument which had been formerly used by a bandsman who had died of consumption. Deceased leaves a widow and two young children, who need and deserve sympathy in a practical form.

(The widow, (Helen, nee Allen), married John Cooper 1912, and died in 1975, aged 98)
