IWCP - 13 February 1909 - NEWPORT - RAILWAY'S DEATH. - The death occurred at Pan-crossing, Newport, on Friday 1st of Mr. Thomas Gregory, the gate-keeper at the crossing and a highly respected member of the staff of the I.W. Central Railway. The deceased started work on the line when a lad, and had been one of the permanent way staff, chief porter at Newport Station, and a signalman. It was whilst at this last duty a year or so ago that he was stricken with paralysis, and in consequence of failing health was sent to Pan-crossing. He was 48 years of age. The funeral took place at St. Paul's Cemetery on Sunday, about 50 members of the staff and employees of the I.W. Central Railway, with Mr. Charles L. Conacher (general manager) attending. Six of the Newport Station staff acted as bearers. The service was conducted by Mr. Fry.
