Isle of Wight County Press - 17 May 1958 - NEWPORT - The Late Mr. J. McCaughan. - The death occurred on Sunday of Mr. John McCaughan, of 2 Hillside Road, aged 58. Mr. McCaughan was born in Armoy, County Antrim, and came to the Island with the Ulster Rifles in 1921. He served in Egypt, Chine, and India, and retired in 1937. He was recalled to the Army in 1939 and went to France with the Expeditionary Force and came back through the evacuation of Dunkirk. After being discharged from the Army owing to wounds, Mr. McCaughan settled in the Island and was employed as a storeman at Messrs. J. Samuel White and Co. up to the time of his death. A retiring man, Mr. McCaughan was a member of the R.A.O.B. He leaves two daughters and three sons.
