Isle of Wight County Press - 26 December 1920 - NEWPORT - THE FUNERAL - took place at St. Paul's cemetery on Thursday of Mr. John Foster, aged 73, of Melville House, Fairlee-road, who passed away the previous Friday after a long and useful life, for nearly 40 years of which he faithfully served as the head gardener at Broadlands House Home, where he was greatly esteemed and valued, as he was in the district generally. He was one of the first members of the Whippingham Parish Council, on which he usefully served for some 12 years. He came from Hambledon (Hants). His wife predeceased him six years ago.
