Isle of Wight County Press, 21 September 1889, NEWPORT - THE FUNERAL - of Mr. Charles Cooper, the "father" of the Hand-in-Hand Friendly Society, took place on Tuesday, at Carisbrooke Cemetery, the Rev. F. Rogers officiating. Mr. Councillor Salter, the senior secretary of the society, and a number of member attended the obsequies.
