IWCP - 2 July 1892 – PARKHURST. FATAL ACCIDENT TO A CONVICT. - On Saturday morning E. F. Blake, Esq., held an Inquest at Parkhurst Prison on the body of Joseph Wildsmith, a convict, who had almost completed a term of five years’ penal servitude. It appeared that the deceased was engaged in digging and loading gravel in the Forest, when a quantity of earth and gravel fell upon him, inflicting fatal injuries. A verdict of “Accidental death” was returned, and the Jury requested that a representation should be made to the Authorities not to allow undermining at the pit in future.
