Isle of Wight County Press - 27 August 1898 - NEWPORT - DEATH OF AN OCTOGENARIAN ODDFELLOW. - Mr. John Johnson, who was, we believe, the oldest local Oddfellow, died on Thursday last at the age of 83. The deceased had served most of the offices in the Earl Yarborough Lodge of Oddfellows, and years ago he was a noted speaker at the annual dinners of the Lodge, being a man of much fluency and well versed in the sentiments of the great brotherhood.
