IWCP - 14 July 1900 - Newport - DEATH OF MR. EDMUND PEEL. - We regret to record the death of Mr. Edmund Peel, which took place at his residence in West-street on Sunday last, at the age of 77. His remains were interred at Carisbrooke Cemetery on Thursday. The personal mourners were Mr. William Peel (brother), Mr. Augustus Peel (nephew), Miss Douglas Hamilton, and Mr. E.F. Blake (solicitor). The Very Rev. Monsignor Conway, D.D., was the officiating priest. The deceased was the eldest son of the late Mr. Edmund Peel, author of “The Fair Island” and other poems. Alike with his father, he was a man of the gentlest nature and kindliest heart, and many were his acts of benevolence, always unostentatiously performed.
