Hampshire Advertiser – 30 September 1865 – Newport – DEATH OF ONE OF THE OLDEST TRADESMEN IN THE BOROUGH. – In our obituary is recorded the death of Mr. John Duke, of Towngate Mill, who had been in business here during the last fifty years. The deceased fell down in a fit in the street yesterday (Friday), about 8 a.m. Mr. Beckingsale, surgeon, was quickly in attendance, and deceased recovered consciousness, but died in about an hour after the attack. Disease of the heart was pronounced to be the cause of death.
