IWCP – 5 October 1901 – Newport - DEATH OF AN OLD TOWNSMAN. – Mr. William Dudley Mew, a well-knows and esteemed townsman living in Sea-street, passed peacefully away on Sunday at the age of 71. After a long period of faithful service at the Royal Brewery the deceased retired through ill health, a pension being awarded him by the Royal Brewery firm. The funeral took place at Newport Cemetery on Thursday, four of his former fellow-employees acting as bearers. The Vicar (Rev. H. Edmund Sharpe) officiated. The personal mourners were the sons and daughters of the deceased. The many beautiful floral tributes included one inscribed “With sympathy, from F.T. Mew, Polars.”
