Isle of Wight Observer-Saturday 20 February 1869.FREEMASONRY.On Friday night, the 12th instant,Brother William Williams (late of Pyle Street)died,in the 69th year of his age,at his son,Henry's residence,Chelsea,Middlesex,where he had been sojourning for some time past,and on Wednesday his remains were buried by the side of his late wife in Newport Cemetery,the Rev G H Connor,M.A.,vicar, officiating at the last sacred rite to his much-respected late churchwarden.The body was followed to the grave by his five sons and son-in-law,accompanied by the master,past masters and brethren of the Albany Lodge,No 152,Newport,of which the deceased was a distinguished member and also much respected by his brother Freemasons.P M Williams was initiated in the Medina Lodge,No 35,Cowes,in 1829 and joined the Albany Lodge,No 152 in 1830;from thenceforth he has continuously been a member durig which period he has several times he has been elected to fulfil the duties of the chair;he was also P.Z. of the Royal Arch Chapter and past grand senior warden of the province of the Isle of Wight and of him it may truly be said that "he was a good working Mason", to whom it was always a source of pleasure to instruct the junior members of the craft,and to assist the less expert workmen in the execution of their respective duties;indeed,his extensive knowledge of the ancient ceremonials,coupled to a retentive memory and a readiness at all times to take any part in the workings or lectures,was duly estimated by the lodge and cemented a bond of friendship which death only has severed but will not erase from the memory of those who survive him.
