Worcestershire Chronicle – 23 February 1901 – At Winchester Assizes, before Mr. Justice Day, Adolphus Tardiff, 35, a printer, pleaded “guilty” to bigamy. Mr. Temple Cook prosecuted; the prisoner was undefended. It seemed that the prisoner married his wife in 1882, deserted her, and went through the ceremony of marriage with Effie Sarah Brecon at Southampton on February 28, 1895. He deserted her also, and at the time of his arrest was living with another married woman. His Lordship, in passing sentence, said it was a bad case. His repeated offences of bigamy almost amounted to a profession. The prisoner must be kept in penal servitude for five years.
