IWCP - 24 May 1924 - NEWPORT - DEATH OF MR. C. MATTHEWS. - A highly respected resident of the borough passed away after a long illness on Wednesday in the person of Mr. Charles Matthews, who for 30 years had been in business as a general carrier at Chapel-street. The deceased, who was 67, was a native of Gatcombe, but had been associated with horse transport work in the Newport district for some years before acquiring the business in Chapel-street. He was an esteemed member of the community of Brethren. The funeral takes place this (Saturday) afternoon.
