Watchmaker, once an agent for Hampshire Telegraph and leader of the Reform Party (Anti Conservative) Quay St address - (Brian Greening)ISLE OF WIGHT OBSERVER-29 SEPTEMBER 1860.DEATH AND INTERMENT OF A OLD INHABITANT.On Tuesday last were interred the remains of Mr E.Wilkins,jeweller, an old inhabitant of Newport,and one much and deservedly respected.He died on Saturday last, aged 61.Mr Wilkins was an advanced liberal,and was very zealous and active in furthering the interests of the liberal cause in the town,being often the chairman of the meetings during the elections,as well as the reporter of their proceedings.He was also a trustee in connection with the lamented A.Clark,esq.of the "Hand-in-Hand Friendly Benefit Society" and laso a member of many years standing.Several of his late brother members,as well as officers of the club,followed his remains to the grave.He was interred in the Newport Cemetery by the Unitarian minister,of which persuasion the deceased was a member.
