IWCP – 10 April 1943 – CARISBROOKE – Death of Mr. J. E. Pettit. – We regret to announce the death of Mr. John Edwin Pettit, of Willow Lawn, High-street. Mr. Pettit died on Wednesday morning having been an invalid for many years. He leaves a widow. Mr. Pettit was an ex-Serviceman having served in the Royal Navy as a Master-at-Arms during the siege of Ladysmith in the South African war and also in the Great War. Mr. Pettit has had a confectionery and tobacco business in Carisbrooke for 23 years. The funeral will be today (Saturday).
