IWCP - 22 January 1944 - PARKHURST - Public Institution Clerk's Sudden Death. - Mr. Alfred James Birchmore, aged 57, who since November 1940, had been employed as a clerk at the I.W. Public Institution, was found dead in bed in the staff quarters by a colleague on Monday morning. He was apparently in good health when he retired on the previous night and had spent the afternoon and evening at the home of a fellow employee at Horsebridge-hill. The Deputy-Coroner ordered a post-mortem, which showed that death was due to heart disease, and no inquest was therefore necessary.
