IWCP - 28 December 1946 - Newport - Retired Mariner's Death. - A well known figure, especially among the local seafaring community, has been removed by the death at 67 Elm-grove, on Saturday, of Mr. Stantial Leopold King, aged 76. Mr. King had spent the greater part of his life as a mariner, particularly on yachts. During the 1914-18 war he served in the Royal Navy, putting his age back to enlist. He was wounded and twice wrecked on the Goodwin Sands. The funeral took place at Carisbrooke Cemetery on Tuesday, the mourners including Mr. F. King, of London (brother) and Mrs. F. R. Gay. Messrs. O. C. Hamilton and Son made the arrangements.
