Hampshire Advertiser - 17 July 1852 - NEWPORT - DEATH OF MR. JOHN DENNETT. - After three years of complete physical prostration, Mr. John Dennett, the originator of Dennett's rockets, for saving life at shipwrecks, breathed his last, at Carisbrooke Castle, on Saturday, the 10th instant. The deceased was versed in science, and ranked high as an antiquarian. It was thought that his invention of a new and superior mode of obtaining communication with stranded vessels was never sufficiently appreciated by the ruling powers of the day, and that he was deserving of some requital for the valuable services rendered to the cause of humanity, in saving the lives of hundreds of his fellow-creatures of all nations.
