IWCP - 6 October 1917 - WAR NEWS. - H.M.S. DRAKE TORPEDOED. H.M.S. Drake, a cruiser of 14,100 tons, was torpedoed off the north coast of Ireland on Tuesday. She reached harbour and then sank in shallow water. One officer and 18 men were killed by the explosion ; the remainder of the officers and crew were saved.
NOTICE OF CASUALTIES - NEWPORT - Mr. Adolphus Edward Stark, this officer killed on H.M.S. Drake, is the nephew of Mr. Edward Morris, J.P. He leaves a widow, whose parents reside in Newport, and one child. Mr. Stark was a very able young man of about 35 years of age.
