Isle of Wight County Press – 20 July 1901 – NEWPORT – THE FUNERAL – took place on Wednesday morning at Newport Cemetery of Mrs. Shepard, widow of the late Mr. Robert Shepard, of Broadlands, whose death occurred on Saturday at the age of 71. The Rev. Clement Smith, M.V.O. (rector of Whippingham), officiated. The first portion of the service took place in St. Paul’s Church. The mourners included Mr. E. Stone (brother), Mr. H. Shepard (brother-in-law), Messrs. H., W., and P. Shepard (nephews), Mr. R. Roach Pittis, J.P., Dr. Thompson, T.C., Mr. F. W. Milligan, and Mr. W. Monk. Mr. G. Y. Groundsell carried out the funeral arrangements.
