Isle of Wight County Press - 30 July 1921 - NEWPORT - OBITUARY. - The death occurred on Thursday week, at Westmill Cottage, Carisbrooke-road, of Mr. Alexander Mearman, an old Newport tradesman, who had reached the great age of 89. The funeral took place on Saturday, the service at St. Thomas's Church and Newport Cemetery being conducted by the Vicar (Rev. C. H. Thompson). Those attending were Mr. Alex. Mearman (son), Miss Mearman and Mrs. W. D. Hutton (daughters), Mr. Alick Mearman (grandson), Mr. W. D. Hutton (son-in-law), Mrs. A. Mearman (daughter-in-law), Messrs. Thomas and Percy Hollis (nephews), and Mr. W. A. Scott (East Cowes).
