Hampshire Telegraph - 29 October 1864 - Deaths - CLARKE - On the 26th inst., in Carisbrooke-road, of brain fever, Mr. John Chatfeild Clarke, eldest son of the Abraham Clarke Esq., for many years Clerk to the Guardians of the Poor in the Isle of Wight, and recently Poor Law Auditor for the Hants and Sussex District, highly esteemed by all who knew him, aged 38. IW OBSERVER-5 NOVEMBER 1864. The mortal remains of Mr. John Chatfield Clarke were interred in the Newport Cemetery on Monday. The 2nd Newport corps I.W.R.V., of which he was a sergeant, followed him to the grave. The number of persons present was estimated at between 3,000 and 4,000.
