IWCP - 7 July 1906 - Newport - DEATH OF MRS. S. DYER. - Newport loses one of its oldest inhabitants by the death of Mrs. Dyer, widow of the late Mr. Samuel Dyer, who passed peacefully away on Wednesday, in her 91st year. Of a kindly and benevolent nature, the deceased lady was held in warm regard, and many will miss her. She was one of the oldest members of the Congregational Church and a valued and generous supporter of the work of that church. The funeral takes place on Monday next, the interment in Newport Cemetery being preceded by a service at the Congregational Church at 2.30.
IW TIMES - 12 JULY 1906 - NEWPORT FUNERAL - The funeral of the late Mrs. Dyer, widow of the late Mr. Samuel Dyer, who died at the age of 90 last week at her residence, Holyrood House, Newport, took place on Monday afternoon. The first part of the service was held at the Congregational Church, of which the deceased was one of the oldest members, the Rev. A.O. Lachore, a former pastor of the church, officiating in the presence of a number of relatives and friends, including the Revs. C.H. Davis, G. Avery (former pastors of the Congregational Church), and W.R.K. Baulkwill, Dr Groves, J.P., Messrs. J Thomas, J.P.,C.A., Francis Pittis J.P., R. Bullen, J.P., and others. The interment was at Newport Cemetery. There were no flowers by request, and the service was of a very simple character, owing to the death that morning of the deceased's nephew, Mr B Jolliffe, under the distressing circumstances already reported.
